ProMotion will not be spread to the whole iPhone 14 series and will stay unique to the Pro models, according to Ross Young, who has provided comprehensive correct information on Apple’s upcoming products on several times.
Young hinted in a tweet that LTPO OLED screens for the lower-end iPhone 14 models will come from Chinese manufacturer BOE. However, he claims that BOE’s existing capacity is unable to satisfy all of Apple’s needs.
Samsung is currently the exclusive supplier of LTPO OLED displays for the iPhone 13 Pro models. However, Apple also seems to be intending to add LG to the list of suppliers of LTPO screens for iPhones. Apple’s goal is to get rid of the excessive tying of screen supply from Samsung.
In September 2021, Apple debuted ProMotion on the iPhone with the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Depending on the kind of information on the screen, ProMotion allows the display to refresh at up to 120Hz for smoother looking content and scrolling, or as low as 10Hz for improved battery life.
ProMotion is now confined to “Pro” goods like the iPhone 13 Pro, iPad Pro, and the recently released 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
