Foxconn CEO Vic Wang recently told the press that the group’s factory in Zhengzhou (China) employs approximately 200,000 people. This figure is comparable to the factory’s pre-epidemic operating staff.
The iPhone 14 is nearly out of stock
In comparison to the estimate at the beginning of the year, this plant was operating at 90% capacity by the end of December 2022. This is a positive sign ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year shopping season.
Bloomberg believes Foxconn is still facing numerous challenges at this time. The first is an outbreak of infections in China as a result of the country’s relaxation of its Zero Covid-19 policy. Furthermore, the epidemic exacerbates the labor shortage.
Previously, Foxconn’s factory in Zhengzhou, also known as “iPhone City,” faced difficulties due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The factory will enter the closed production phase in October 2022. To comply with China’s epidemic prevention measures, workers are only permitted to move from the workplace to the dormitory.
This policy infuriated employees, resulting in scuffles and riots at the factory. Thousands of workers protested, and some even quit their jobs, in opposition to strict anti-epidemic measures.
As a result, some experts predicted that Apple would have to delay the production of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max duo.
