Apple has attempted to reduce its reliance on third-party suppliers over the years by manufacturing its own components. Cupertino, like it did with its A-series mobile chipsets and M-series SoCs, is rumored to be developing wireless chips, 5G modems, and even displays for iPhones, Apple Watches, and Macs.
Apple has halted the development of an internal Wi-Fi chip
Apple will halt development of its in-house Wi-Fi chip, according to the most recent source from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. For the time being, they continue to rely on Broadcom as their primary supplier.
Apple is focusing the majority of its chip design resources on developing chipsets. Kuo also stated that Apple continues to prioritize 5G modem development over Wi-Fi chip development.
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 models will almost certainly use Wi-Fi 6E. Apple’s combined Wi-Fi + Bluetooth chip project, according to Kuo, is still in the works. Mark Gurman also confirmed that Apple is still developing its own Wi-Fi + Bluetooth combination chip.
