Apple only recently unveiled the HomePod Gen 2 smart speaker, but the company has much more ambitious plans for the smart home. People with knowledge of the situation claim that Apple is working on a number of products that will help it compete with Google and Amazon in the smart home market.
A smart display is being produced by Apple
The first product in this line will have a smart display. It is essentially a low-cost iPad that you can mount anywhere using a “magnetic latch.” It can play videos, manage FaceTime conversations, and control your smart home appliances like thermostats and lights.
In actual practice, these devices are becoming more and more prevalent. Both Google and Amazon have similar products on the market, the Nest Hub and the Echo Show. Apple’s smart display is anticipated to go on sale in 2019.
Apple might also be considering a “home stand” for the current iPad. Apple employees have talked about even bigger smart home displays, but it appears that the company has not yet decided whether to release any.
The upcoming version of Apple TV, which is anticipated to be released in the first half of next year and keep its current design, is anticipated to have a faster processor.
A device that combines an Apple TV box with a smart speaker and a FaceTime camera is also under development, but there have been many setbacks to the effort. The finished product was initially intended for release this year, but its release date is currently unknown.
