Apple has a long-standing and well-known connection with (RED), a nonprofit that raises cash to help African countries eradicate HIV/AIDS. The (PRODUCT) RED iPhone 13 and the (PRODUCT) RED Apple Watch Series 7 are two of Apple’s (PRODUCT) RED gadgets.
(RED) produced a brief film today highlighting their collaboration with Apple. They’ve raised almost $270 million through the sale of (PRODUCT) RED items over the last 15 years. (RED) has used the funds to provide health treatment and education to HIV/AIDS sufferers in African countries.
With COVID threatening to reverse the progress gained in the fight against AIDS, Apple has been involving its customers in the fight against both pandemics all year long and at important periods through the App Store, Apple Pay integrations, and staff engagement.
Normally, earnings from (PRODUCT) RED purchases go to the Global Fund to combat HIV/AIDS. But in 2020 and 2021, Apple reallocated 100% of qualifying proceeds to the Global Fund’s COVID-19 program to help health systems in Africa that are threatened by the pandemic.
The funds contributed to the Global Fund from (PRODUCT) RED purchases will be shared until December 31, 2022, according to Apple’s website. Half of the funds will be used to reduce the effects of COVID-19, while the other half will be used to fight HIV/AIDS.
