Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), a rumors expert, stated in 2021 that a new feature added to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra would improve the phone’s night photography capabilities. And now he’s mentioned the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s night photography capabilities.
Night Mode will make the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra appear to be able to see in the dark
“I need to emphasize that the S23 Ultra’s night camera is actually ‘night vision,'” Iceman wrote. While it is unknown what the camera cluster on the Galaxy S23 Ultra will include, TENAA, the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s governing body, is uncertain. China has revealed a 200MP camera on the device’s back, but this does not rule out the device still using the 108MP main sensor found in last year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra, albeit with some improvements.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra will also include two 12MP cameras and one 2MP sensor. The front camera will also have a 12MP image sensor. It’s unclear where the advances in night photography will come from. According to one leak, the device will record 8K video at 30 frames per second (FPS). This is an increase from the Galaxy S22 series’ 4 frames per second. When shooting from a phone, this will result in smoother videos.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, along with the other two phones in the series, will be unveiled on February 1 at the next Samsung Unpacked event. The device could be released on February 10 or February 17.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC in the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be overclocked. Unlike the regular TSMC variant, the overclocked chip is manufactured by Samsung Foundry and features a high-performance X-3 core running at 3.32 GHz, which is slightly faster than the 3.20 GHz produced by the X-3 core on the TSMC chip version.
Samsung is working to improve “Nightography” on Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
The Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3088px, according to TENAA. The phone’s base configuration will include 8GB of RAM as well as 128GB and 256GB of storage. The 512GB storage variant will have 12GB of RAM.
Samsung says its current Night Mode feature “allows you to take vibrant, highly optimized photos, even in the dark. That means you won’t have to take blurry night photos. The innovative multi-frame AI processing that combines 30 images into one epic photo, optimizing color and detail in every pixel, makes images look sharp. All of this is part of the company’s Nightography.”
So, how does someone with a Galaxy device that supports Nightography use it? “Samsung’s Night Mode saves you the hassle of capturing epic Nightography,” according to the manufacturer. Simply swipe into Night Mode on your Galaxy smartphone and snap. So there’s no need to edit your images because this mode will take care of everything. Are you prepared to take your night photography to the next level?
If Ice Universe is correct, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will take night photography to a new level, which Samsung will undoubtedly promote heavily. Taking usable photos in low light has been a goal of phone manufacturers since the Windows Phone era.
Currently, night photography has been taken a step further on high-end devices such as iPhone 14 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or Google Pixel phones. However, many cases of night photos taken from phones still cannot make users completely satisfied and Samsung expects the Galaxy S23 Ultra to bring new experiences to them.
In addition to night photography, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is also expected to bring many improvements related to performance, graphics processing capabilities, and work support with various accessories in Samsung’s ecosystem.
