According to a source at TheElec, screen output for BOE’s 6.1-inch iPhone model has declined dramatically since the beginning of the year. According to BOE, the problem is a shortage of screen driver ICs. LX Semicon sold this component to BOE (which also supplies similar components to LG Display).
iPhone news update – Will BOE stop producing iPhone 14 screen?
However, the insider claims that Apple identified another reason: the Chinese manufacturer changed the design of the panel randomly, such as making the transistor circuit board thinner. It’s unclear how this will influence the iPhone’s screen quality, but it’s difficult to accept for a firm with as high standards as Apple.
Apple may discontinue ordering iPhone screens from BOE as a result of this discovery. Furthermore, it is not ruled out that the Cupertino behemoth intends to pull the OLED display supply chain out of China in order to supply aggressively.
Apple’s collaboration with BOE is currently aimed at being proactive in supply and putting pressure on Samsung Display and LG Display to lower component prices.
However, there have been numerous indications recently that Apple is attempting to gradually diminish the dominance of Chinese component supply.
