The world’s fastest desktop CPU – Intel introduced the 12th generation Core i9-12900KS processor, which can run at a maximum frequency of 5.5GHz, at CES 2022, according to GSMArena. For the first time, this chip can reach speeds of up to two cores, giving professional gamers the best possible performance.
This limited-edition processor (thus the S at the end of the name) will be available for $739 beginning April 5. It will also be sold pre-integrated into the systems of OEM partners.
The processor architecture is the same as Intel’s current most powerful chip, the Core i9-12900K, which has 16 cores and 24 threads as well as a 30MB L3 cache.
The main difference is that the base power has been increased to 150W, allowing the processor to run at 5.5GHz. Meanwhile, the normal 12th generation Core i9 runs at 5.2GHz and consumes 125W of power.
The 16 cores are divided into two clusters, one for performance and one for efficiency. This chipset works with Z690 motherboards, and Intel recommends using the most recent BIOS for the “optimal gaming experience.”
